The two-storey 1903 warehouse of the Canada Foundry Company, part of a 60-acre works that made railway track, bridge parts and ironwork, and later Canadian General Electric's Davenport Works until 1981. Heritage-designated in 2008 and converted by E-Park into 104 lofts around a 16,000-square-foot atrium.
In 1903 the Canada Foundry Company built a factory complex on a 60-acre site south of Davenport Road, with warehouses, an office building and a powerhouse, drawn by the railway tracks that still run along the west and south edges of the land. The foundry made steel and cast-iron products: railway track, bridge components, fences, grilles and staircases. Some accounts say it built locomotives too.
In 1923 Canadian General Electric took over the Canada Foundry Company and its property, renamed the plant Davenport Works and made electrical equipment there until 1981. The City listed the warehouse on its heritage inventory in 2004 and designated it in 2008, praising its massive scale, roof shape and Classical detailing.
E-Park Developments converted the warehouse in 2008, with Burka Architects. Its heart is a four-storey atrium of about 16,000 square feet that runs the length of the building, with trees, benches and cobblestone paths. There are 104 lofts from about 535 to 2,470 square feet, and the rest of the old works has become the Davenport Village neighbourhood.
