History of Arch Lofts

The church was designed by the Toronto firm G.M. Miller and Company, whose plans are dated 1910, and completed in 1913 at Perth and Ernest Avenues for a Methodist congregation. In 1925 it joined the new United Church of Canada; the building later became the home of the Toronto Perth Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The City listed it on its heritage inventory in 2008 and designated it in 2013 as a Neo-Gothic church. After the congregation left and the church was deconsecrated, Windmill Development Group and Cornerstone Lofts bought it, and launched it as Union Lofts in the fall of 2012. Restoring the century-old church ran into serious trouble, and the project was relaunched in 2016 as Arch Lofts.

Caricari Lee Architects left the church's structure and look largely intact, with a separate four-storey Vestry addition beside it, and Windmill built it to low-carbon standards. It was finished in 2018, with 39 lofts split between the church and the Vestry.
