Bartlett Lofts

8 Bartlett Avenue, Toronto
Dovercourt Park  ·  Est. 1907

A single-storey brick rope factory north of Bloor near Dufferin, built in 1907, beside an old twine mill at 6 Bartlett. Converted in 2001 into just six two-storey lofts with sandblasted posts and beams, exposed brick and 13-foot ceilings.

History of Bartlett Lofts

The factory at 8 Bartlett Avenue was built in 1907 to make rope. Its neighbour at 6 Bartlett was a twine mill, which suggests the two businesses were connected, and behind them an old boiler factory has become the Lanehouse Lofts.

It was converted in 2001 into six lofts; the work is credited to Bob Mitchell's Mitchell Lofts in some sources and to Alice Street Holdings in others. The original timber posts and beams were sandblasted and left exposed under 13-foot beamed ceilings, with brick walls, hardwood floors, big windows and skylights. The lofts run from about 1,090 to 1,390 square feet, most with two bedrooms, and they rarely come up for sale.
