A four-storey loft building on King Street East with a glass atrium, completed around 1989–90 by the Derby Development Corporation with Sweeny&Co Architects on the site of the old Derby Tavern. Twenty-six loft suites; one of the first loft-style condos in Toronto.
The site was once the Derby Tavern, earlier known as William Wright's Inn, which gave the building its name.
The Derby Development Corporation built the Derby here at the very start of Toronto's loft era, with Sweeny&Co Architects, who describe it as the first two-storey open-loft-style condominium project in Toronto. It was finished around 1989 or 1990, with 26 suites over four floors around a glass atrium. Most accounts describe it as built new in the loft style, while some listings call it a conversion of an older warehouse.
The Distillery District and St. Lawrence Market are both a short walk away.
