The Annette Street Baptist Church, built in 1888 by local contractor John Shelley Turner and later the Czechoslovak Baptist Church. Heritage-designated in 2011 and converted the same year by Terra Firma Homes into eight four-storey homes, winning a 2013 National Trust Cornerstone Award.
John Shelley Turner, a local contractor, built the Annette Street Baptist Church in 1888 at Annette and High Park Avenue, in what was then the booming railway town of West Toronto Junction. It opened in 1889 and served its congregation for nearly a century, later as the Czechoslovak Baptist Church; the building was altered in 1906 and 1920.
The City listed it on its heritage inventory in 1998 and designated it in 2011 (By-law 30-2011). That year Terra Firma Homes, with Michael Hatch Designs as architects, rebuilt the inside as just eight four-storey homes, part church, part townhouse, part loft, keeping the original church outside. The project won a 2013 Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Award from the National Trust for Canada for adaptive reuse.
