A 10-storey concrete office building at Richmond and Brant, sold as office condos from 1989 and still carrying its Starwood Centre name over the door. From about 1996 its units began selling as live/work lofts, first as Soho Lofts, which is why it is also called Soho South; about 104 units with 11-foot ceilings.
The corner of Richmond and Brant was a vacant lot in the 1980s. The land sold in 1989, and that year the Richmond Brant Group began selling office condominiums in a planned 10-storey building, with occupancy in 1991. The name, Starwood Centre, is still over the front door.
The building was never really converted. Around 1996 the city allowed people to live in it, and the first residential sale on MLS was that year, with most following in 1997. The units were sold as Soho Lofts, the name of the developer's office conversion at 188 Eglinton, while the floor plans said Starwood Centre, so it is also known as Soho South.
The roughly 104 units, still a mix of homes and businesses, run from about 500 to over 2,000 square feet, most of them on one level, with concrete floors and columns, exposed ducts, ceilings around 11 feet and huge windows. There is no deeded parking, but spaces can be rented by the month.
